Before opening any design program, the process begins with a hand-drawn sketch. This step allows us to quickly capture ideas and begin to imagine what the colín will be like. But it's not just aesthetics, we have to take into account aspects such as:
* Aerodynamics, to reduce resistance and improve efficiency.
* Sizes and proportions, which must adapt perfectly to the chassis and the rest of the motorcycle.
* Comfort and ergonomics for the pilot, because every detail counts in a race.
Once we are clear about these factors, we move on to 3D design with CATIA, which allows us to validate our ideas with precision and ensure that the tailstock meets all the requirements.
With the digital design finished, we move on to the workshop: 3D printing of the molds. With the help of Jesus Alberca (Villaprint3d) and his 3D printers, we were able to print the tail in two pieces, a key step during the process, as this allows us to work with the most accurate base possible and avoid having to fit many small pieces together.
➡️ But these printed molds are not strong enough to directly manufacture the final piece. That's why, in the next episode, we will transform them into definitive fiberglass molds.
